This was such a fun YA read! It’s a mash-up of The Breakfast Club and a murder thriller! I give it 4 out of 5 stars.
All of your typical high school stereotypes are sitting in detention: the brain, the beauty, the criminal, the athlete and the outcast. Sounds familiar right. Well, not quite. In this story, one of these students is dead within the hour. What originally looks like death by severe allergic reaction turns into a full blown murder investigation focusing on the four remaining students as suspects. As the investigation pursues, and media coverage grows, the lives of those four unfortunate teenagers changes and they all start leaning on each other for support. We get to see how each of them change as they face adversity. The ending wasn’t a huge surprise to me, I had guessed it as a possibility but wasn’t sure how all the pieces fit together.
Overall, this was a fun YA book. It had a little more character building than it did thriller qualities but it was still enjoyable. I liked seeing how each of the four students dealt with what was going on and how they perceived each other before and after the events. If you are really into YA, you will like this one. If you are looking for more of an intense thriller, this may not be the one for you.
