Thank you to Dutton Books for providing me with a free copy of Unsub in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are my own.
Detective Mack Hendrix dedicates his life and career to finding an elusive serial killer called The Prophet: a man who takes it upon himself to rid the world of people he personally deems as bad and unfit. Mack gets very close one night, chasing the killer into the woods and even glimpsing his face. After this close encounter, The Prophet disappears and doesn’t kill again. Fast forward 20 years, Mack’s daughter Caitlin is a cop working in Narcotics when to everyone’s horror, The Prophet has returned with a vengeance, killing again in the same gruesome ways as the last time. She immediately asks to be assigned to the case to catch this killer who almost destroyed her father. Based on the unsolved Zodiac killer case, Unsub is a very intense and scary page turning thriller.
This book lived up to all the hype it has gotten over the past year. With action from the first page, I was completely sucked into the search for a psychopathic killer, whose delusions made for a very scary atmosphere. Something happened to me while reading this book that has never happened to me before: I was genuinely scared. I teared up at some points because I was scared to turn the page and find out what the killer had done to his next victims. I think that Meg Gardiner did a fantastic job creating such a realistic and action packed book that could effect me in such a way! I loved it, I give it five stars!
